New Features of AX900™ Axle Scales Facilitate Easy Maintenance

One of the largest specialty steel service centers in the United States, in their commitment to optimizing truck operations, has incorporated scales as a value-added service for their truck drivers. The purpose is to provide drivers with precise load weight information in-house. Previously, their truck scale was situated within a pit, a design choice that ultimately brought about drainage challenges. The persistent lack of efficient means to extract the plates from the pits for maintenance culminated in load cell problems and scale failure. 

“Poor drainage, coupled with no real efficient way to get the plates out of the pits to clean it, caused loadcell issues and eventually the scale failed completely,” explains Tim Fluharty, Sales & Service Representative at Berne Scale. “Being able to point out to the customer that the AX900 scale has a feature to install eye bolts to lift the weigh plates was a big benefit.  This feature will make it easier for my customer to remove the scales and keep the pits clean, and more importantly, dry.”

In response to these issues, the decision to acquire a new scale solution was pivotal. The AX900™ Axle Scale System emerged as an ideal solution due to its innovative feature that permits the installation of eye bolts for convenient plate lifting. This addition facilitates not only easy maintenance but, more crucially, prevents the accumulation of moisture within the pits, addressing the drainage shortcomings.

Distinguished by its ruggedness, the AX900™ weigh bridges come in diverse sizes, capacities, and configurations, suitable for weighing dual or multi-axle vehicles when a permanent scale setup isn’t feasible. The incorporation of stainless steel, hermetically sealed shear beam load cells enhances the system’s capability to accurately weigh loads up to 180,000 lb (80,000 kg) with an impressive precision of ±.1%.

With their wireless operation and seamless communication between various devices, the AX900™ Axle Scale Systems provide an exhaustive solution for collecting data on axle weights, group weights, and Gross Vehicle Weights (GVW). Calibration is stored at the scale, providing users with interchangeability of all components.
