Intercomp Helps Joe Gibbs Racing to Emotional, Historic Daytona 500 Win

Minneapolis – Denny Hamlin led his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammates to a one-two-three finish at the 61st Daytona 500 on Sunday, with the help of Intercomp racing equipment. Kyle Busch and Erik Jones rounded out the top three positions under the lights. Hamlin and the team dedicated the win and the entire 2019 campaign to J.D. Gibbs who recently died of complications from a long-term fight against a degenerative neurological disease.

“As part of the extended Intercomp family, we were very saddened to hear of J.D.’s passing,” Intercomp Owner William Kroll said. “As with many of the race teams and organizations with whom we work, a personal connection is developed between many individuals within both organizations during these collaborative efforts. While we are inspired by the life J.D. led, this loss hits close to home.”
The win was Hamlin’s second at the Daytona 500, but it was the first time teammates swept the top three positions since Hendrick Motorsports finished one-two-three in 1997.
“What happened right here, J.D.’s name is on that car,” team owner Joe Gibbs said after the race. “That’s his No. 11 with Denny, he found Denny. I’m just saying what happened here was emotional for all of us, the family. Denny racing like he did right there is unbelievable.”
