(Minneapolis, MN – Intercomp, the world’s leading manufacturer of aircraft scales, announced that the United States Air Force has purchased AC30-60™ High-Capacity Aircraft Scales for service at the KC-46 Pegasus System Program Office at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In development since February of 2011 when the tanker was selected by the United States Air Force as the winner in the KC-X tanker competition to replace older Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers, the KC-46 represents the beginning of a new era in air-to-air refueling capability.

“The AC30-60™ has self-aligning platforms and a proprietary web bridge support to provide the utmost in accuracy and durability,” explained Eric Peterson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Intercomp. “They were designed to handle heavy operational demands like those of the KC-46A, which has an Empty Weight of 181,600 lb (82,375 kg). Selection of the AC30-60 was a natural fit considering our twenty-plus years of experience supplying strain gauge scale technology for weight and balance operations of heavy aircraft, including J-STARS and the KC-135.”

With 0.1% accuracy and the highest levels of repeatability, the AC30-60™ scale is constructed from aerospace-grade machined aluminum to accommodate large aircraft with wheel weights up to 80,000 lb (40,000 kg). Intercomp’s industry leading solid-state fully electronic load cell technology eliminates scale warm-up time, mitigates side loads, and removes the need for centering of tires on the active weighing platform. When calibrated using Intercomp calibration systems, such as the automated types in USAF PMEL inventory, these platform scales can be tested, corrected, and verified in less than thirty minutes, saving valuable time, and quickly returning them back into service.

AC30-60™ High-Capacity Aircraft Scales meet current USAF Purchase Descriptions and are available via GSA Contract and National Stock Numbers, simplifying their purchasing process. All these factors combine to solidify Intercomp’s reputation as the equipment most widely used by airlines, MROs, and airframe manufacturers around the world, making the AC30-60™ scales an obvious choice for the KC-46 Pegasus Program.
