Leading Cargo Conversions Company Selects Intercomp Scales for Critical Weight and Balance Operations photo
Minneapolis, MN – June 04, 2020 – Intercomp, the world’s leading manufacturer of aircraft scales, announced that PEMCO Conversions has installed Intercomp’s AC40-LP scale system at their Tampa, FL operations headquarters. PEMCO is the industry leader in passenger-to-freight conversions of Boeing aircraft, encompassing 26 freighter platforms across hundreds of cargo conversions.

“Passenger-to-freight conversions have distinct requirements for weight and center of gravity considerations,” said Jon Arnold, Market Specialist at Intercomp. “PEMCO was seeking a low-profile scale technology that would function across a range of narrowbody aircraft, from the B737 class up to B767. Intercomp’s portable AC40-LP scale platform meets their needs perfectly with 40,000 lb. capacity and their preference for the accuracy of robust, strain gauge technology.”

Uptime reliability and ease of use was paramount in the decision to select the AC40-LP, noted Arnold. He added that PEMCO uses aircraft OEM data together with its own engineered design and airframe floor beam reinforcement to offer the highest cargo weight and volume capacities. Each aircraft and customer solution can be quite different, requiring a complete understanding of weight and balance for airworthiness in its new capacity.

The Intercomp AC40-LP platform scale offers 0.1% accuracy and the highest levels of repeatability. GaugeSense™ technology eliminates scale warm-up, mitigates side loads and is tolerant to off-center loading, speeding weighings and increasing both productivity and time savings.

PEMCO was acquired by Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services in 2017 and is a part of the ATSG family of companies. The scale solution was recommended to PEMCO by Airborne’s MRO location in Wilmington, OH, who had previously adopted Intercomp’s strain gauge technology upon the advice of a major U.S. airline. Other key points influencing the selection are the commonality of the scale technology for sharing units as needed between facilities, providing a single point advantage for all scale calibration, and the willingness and ability of Intercomp to partially ship components of the order for an immediate need and fulfil the balance at a later date.
