Novel In-Ground Use of Portable Scales
“…the wireless feed to the indicator which resided in the control room with weight inspectors, and NTEP certified scales were the main reasons for utilizing these scales.”– C. Wilson, Florida DOT
Instead of using ramps typically required for portable applications, saw cuts were made into the existing asphalt to match the dimensions of the scales. Without the ability to hard-wire signals into the building, the wireless feed was transmitted to the PT20™ indicator located approximately 100 feet away in the control room.
Approximately 130 trucks per day were weighed over several weeks using this in-ground configuration. Florida DOT noted that in dedicated pull-off areas where permanent static scales are not feasible, officers can deploy this same approach in the future.
The LS630-WIM™ portable scales, paired with the PT20™ indicator, are suitable for both Weigh-In-Motion applications and static weighing, with NTEP certification for enforcement use in the United States.
